Cooking Instructions
Dried beans are most often more cost effective than tinned beans, they have a much better flavour, produce less waste and don't have anything added to them. They do however take much more time and preparation. So if you are choosing to use or try dried beans then here's a quick step-by-step:
Wash beans before use
- Soak beans overnight (8-12 hrs) in water 4x it's weight, and add 1tsp baking powder*
- Drain and rinse the beans in cold water
- Cook for 1 hour on med-high heat in 2x it's weight of water (For added flavour add onions, garlic etc...)
*Adding baking powder helps them to cook faster and aids digestion.
If you want to bulk cook your beans, you can freeze them after cooking!
